Project
Summary
Approximately 24,500 SF, this two-story building is a multi-functional project that houses the entire campus administration and support facilities on the first floor, with classrooms, faculty offices, the “Learning Center” and the “ Career Center” on the second floor. The L-shaped plan opens the building to the lower plaza, while acknowledging the existing auditorium, designed by Flewelling & Moody in the 1950s. Together the plaza and the building create a strong frontage for the main vehicular and pedestrian entrance of the campus at Artesia Blvd. The building can be entered from the main entrance at the plaza or from the second floor pedestrian bridge that links the existing sidewalk with the newly built classrooms. The scale of the building at the plaza and Artesia Blvd. is two-stories while the approach from the east and the north renders the building as one-story based on the grade and level changes that were incorporated into the design. Two vaulted high roofs define the elevations of the building at the south and the east. In addition to housing mechanical equipment on the roof, the vaulted roofs create high ceiling spaces that allow natural light into the Learning Center and Career Center.
